CSAKODA FEAT. PR GROUP - CRAFTY OTHERNESS
Gólya court, Kapolcs, Hungary
Craft fair criticism of Csakoda and PR Group in Kapolcs.
Together with PR Group we set up a stand in the Alley of Arts and Crafts in Kapolcs, Hungary. We intended to make a complex parody as a reaction to the expanding amount of handmade kitsch, nationalist souvenirs and hipster spiritualism.
The stand offers:
HENNAH MONTANAH / Art historic henna painting. Rothko: 1000 HUF, Rubens: 1500 HUF
WALL DECORATION FOR INTELLECTUALS / Quotes from Lajos Kassák, Deleuze, Paul Klee and Claire Bishop (Lacquered plaster sculptures and plaques are associated with lower middle-class bad taste - we created the intellectual versions of them. The quotes would fit the kitchen wall of disillusioned intellectuals, uncompromising artists or 2nd grade art theory students.)
RAP-HAVERSACK / East Coast, West Coast, Hemp tow [The ancient Hungarian runic writing is expropriated by extreme right-wing movements. We tried to design a provocative piece by making it hip (-hop).]
LITERATURE / Recycled waste literature - Martin Heidegger, György Lukács, Dan Brown, E.L. James etc. (Handmade papers are very common on craft fairs, we put it in the context of recycling-mania and it refers to book burnings as well.)
TECHNOCULTURAL WATERMELON / Fragments of Matthew Fuller's Media Ecologies - Materialist Energies in Art and Technoculture craved in a watermelon.
